July 2026 - Request for Proposals for the Spiral Braid Language Initiative focused language revitalization, retention and integration in the greater Southwest, including Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, and Texas.
Good Ancestor Program supports projects that are rooted in relationship to land, healing, cultural revitalization and knowledge sharing. The weaving of intergenerational kinships, honoring elder and youth relationships, and nurturing cultural transmission strategies is supported through this work. The following pathways amplify projects culturally grounded practices and social justice:
- Language Revitalization and Creative Expression strengthens cultural identity and intergenerational learning and kinship; tribal language revitalization, communications, and fluency, creativity and arts development, and builds community cohesion.
- Community-Based Healing rooted in traditional health and healing, community wellness and ceremonial practices.
- Traditional Foodways bring vitality, food sovereignty, food security, and support for subsistence food strategies to our communities.
- Traditional Wisdom and Cultural Knowledge Sharing practices which restore Indigenous identities, knowledge systems and practices, cultural mapping and curriculum development, and culturally rooted leadership development.
Due Dates: Spiral Braid Language Initiative due date is August 7, 2026
All applications must be submitted by Indigenous Peoples. Eligible applicants:
· Indigenous Peoples Organization: Programs must take place within an Indigenous community—including rural, reservation, and urban Native communities—and actively engage community members in all phases of planning, implementation, development, and objective-setting.
· Indigenous Leadership: Initiatives must be led by, and have decision-making authority vested in, the individuals whose culture and community are central to the project and who are directly impacted by its outcomes.
· Cultural Preservation & Vitality: Projects must be explicitly designed to promote, enhance, and sustain the language, culture, traditions, values, and lifeways of the Indigenous Peoples they serve.
· Tax-Exempt Status or Affiliation: Applicants must meet one of the following structural requirements:
· Hold 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
· Be fiscally sponsored by a certified 501(c)(3) organization.
· Or be a Federally-Recognized Tribal Government
· Organizational Standing: Applicants must be in good standing with no outstanding reporting requirements or unresolved compliance issues.
Grant Award Range: Up to $50,000 (average grant award: $20,000 - $30,000)
Native Peoples’ organizations and projects are eligible to apply for one grant per calendar year. If you are currently receiving grant support from the Seventh Generation Fund, please complete all previous grant reporting requirements before reapplying.
